Hi, folks. I've been searching the web for a cost-effective solution for audio synch problems inherent in modern home theater systems. In my case, I have video processing delays which differ between sources (DBS receiver/DVR vs DVD player). My 7.1 AV receiver has a delay function, but it is a global setting (all source inputs) and buried in a sub-menu.
Plus, the audio synch from the DBS varies with time and channel. I'd like to be able to walk up to my system and twist a knob on a little box to dial it in. So, I want to build an adjustable digital delay box. Since I'm using optical interconnect for my audio, and since opto transmitter/receiver modules are so cheap ($5 for Toshiba TORX141 from DigiKey) it should be easy to insert an adjustable digital delay between a receiver module and a transmitter module to accomplish this.... or so I thought. I did search, and see a delay project in progress here: digital reverb or delay (results not yet in) and a suggestion for a delay chip here: Digital delay (but requires decode to I2R then recode) I see I'm not alone in searching for a solution, so figure I'll register and hang out for a while. Based on what I've seen so far, I expect I'll be learning a lot from you folks. Thanks for a great resource! |
