Can't believe what's here

I was searching the web for amplifier construction information when this site popped up. Wow! I can’t believe how many knowledgeable people are out there, and willing to share their experience with the rest of us.

I have a background in Electronics, and worked for a couple of years as an Audio Engineer. But that was a while ago, and there’s a lot of stuff I want to re-learn. I look forward to hearing from many of you while I do that, and hope I can contribute in some way.

Cheers, BC

Harry is clever. He did fool me, again! Christer, do you have "Fingerspitzgefüle" (was it right) for our friend and how he is writing?

Well, I wasn't 100% sure in this case, I must admit, but the
enthusiastic introduction sounded a bit ironic and artificial,
possibly reflecting how Harry perceives many members of
the forum (just guessing here). What convinced me was the
occupation. Sounded like his kind of humour to add that little
hint. He is amusing himself, adding little hints here and there.
He seem to have a passion for film themes. Don't know it there
is any such here, though.

Guinness? Harry?

I can tell you with 100% certainty that he would never touch it. Even if his life depended on it.

Me......that is a different story.

So unless Harry has another new nom de plume just to tweak me, I suggest that you guys might want to stop looking under every rock for a Commie. Or is that a rat?

It should be obvious what motif his new aliases are. You paranoid guys are going to end up looking like a fool if you keep up the witch hunt.

Which probably helps to make whatever point he was trying to make.

So......who is going to apologize to all the newbies you guys accidentally run off?

Commie? Rat? Never crossed my mind, but you know the guy,
so you should know, I guess. :)

That is not at all what I think. With his previous aliases, before
we know it was him hiding behind, he probably wanted to
prove something. With his latest aliases, I think it is just a game.
He gives us some hints and wants to see how long he can post
before somebody finds out it is him again. Why do I bother to
stop him? Well, I don't really. I have just happened to be the first
one to find out it is (most likely) Harry in two recent cases. I have
missed others. Maybe I am all wrong here. you know him, so
you should know, perhaps, if I am misinterpreting him entirely.
The Harry Haller I know from postings in this forum seems to
be clever guy with a good sense of humour, not someone who
would starts a large-scale plot with several different aliases
misbehaving. It would be interesting to hear his own view of
why he did what he did.

So......who is going to apologize to all the newbies you guys accidentally run off?

I deliberately wrote my first post in this thread in a way that
should not put anybody off, if I was mistaken. A real newcomer
would only have been puzzled or confused, and asked what
I meant.

Hi Guys,

I don't know who Harry is, and I don't know what you're all arguing about.

I DO sell scopes for a living, but I don't think this is the right time to say which ones. The natives don't feel too friendly.

I'd like to join this group. Sorry if I offended you by sounding too enthusiastic.

I'm going to post an amplifier question to the appropriate forum. If I get flamed, I'll retire and leave you all to it.

And yes, I do like Guinness.

Yes, new scopes. But too fast for audio work, and probably not enough resolution. And not Tek (although I worked for them a long time ago). And no, I don't sell anything else.

Was it Woody Allen who said "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!"

Hi BC108Man

Welcome!

You have reached a really good place with a nice bunch of folks, although it may not seem like that.

Unfortunately, there is a bunch of troll poop still laying around.

If you will check the Sin Bin thread you will find an expanation there.

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5121

A former member turned out to be a troll and continued posting under assumed identities after he was banned.

This has led some to assume certain new posters may in fact be the troll.

Hopefully, you can understand this situation and realize that this really is a nice place even though it may not seem like it at the moment.

Kinda like stepping in Dog Poop when you least expect it because you're at a really neat place.

Sincerely

Ken L

Since it was I who assumed you to be Harry Haller resurfacing
under yet another alias, I just like apoligize if I was wrong in
this assumption. As I previously said, I had no intention of
scaring any real newcomers away in case I was mistaken, which
made me think about the phrasing so it would not be offensive,
but only puzzling, at worst. Personally I am still suspicious in
this case, althoght much less so than initially, and please, do
not take this personally. I was very convinced you were HH
using yet another alias, albeit using less subtle hints than before
to test our intelligence. I am not that much convinced now.
I sensed there were certain hints typical for Harry, but this could,
of course, be pure coincidence.

To me it doesn't matter much whether you are a real newcomer
or HH. Although HH has recently behaved quite badly, I don't
think he
has any malicioous intent with his new aliases, but is only
amusing himself to see how long it takes for us to identify him.
My sole purpose of pointing out that I assumed you to be him
was that I couldn't resist the intellectual
challenge I think he is testing us with. So, if you are real
newcomer, wlecome aboard this forum and hop you will enjoy it
and find it useful, and if you or the old and wellknown HH, welcome aboard/welcome back anyway, I have nothing against
you personally.

Cheers,

Thanks...

... Ken for giving me the heads-up. Whatever Harry did has clearly upset some people around here.

And thanks Christer for at least suspending your disbelief. You'll see by my actions that I'm here to learn and contribute if I can. (I've already gotten some advice on a multi-channel amp I plan to build). Hope I run into you from time to time.

Cheers, BC :drink:

Probably will

I'm patiently trying to plan a mutli-channel amp also.

A little handicapped by major house renovation - packing up much of the furniture and stuff to put into storage while we put down floors and renovating - doing much of it myself.

And you never know, we might have a Guiness together one of these days.

I rarely drink anything but used to. Guiness was my favorite.

Everything else seems wimpy, although Guiness never seemed heavy to me.

Samuel Smith's.
Either the Imperial or the Oatmeal Stout are world-beaters. Highly recommended. (Their Porter ain't bad, either, but it's not on the same level as the other two.) I've managed to homebrew a dead-ringer for the Imperial. I'm closing in on the Oatmeal. I think I'm up to something like Version 7.0 on the Oatmeal; I got the Imperial in three tries.
