I’ve been interested in electronics and audio ever since I was a kid. I had the good fortune that my parents were good friends with a man that built electronic gadgets and speakers as a hobby; also principal of my grade school. In sixth grade he taught me to solder and had me building my first Heathkit guitar amplifier a year later. By high school I was building tube amplifiers and speaker systems. I even built a 12 channel mixing console and 4 100watt power amps for our band. All tube, of course.
After high school, I went on the road with two different bands before deciding to settle down, go back to school, get married and such. I eventually got into the pipe organ building business (long story) and have spent most of my adult life building, rebuilding and servicing pipe organs until cancer struck me 5 years ago, leaving me disabled. I was forced to close my business and am currently unemployed, although I do some electronics and computer repair here and there. I designed and built a microprocessor based control system for pipe organs, which is still being manufactured by another party. I still love to tinker with audio stuff and woodworking (what I am still able to do). I have a small sound reinforcement system with speakers I built that I loan out now and then (I’m considering selling it). Most of my guitar rig is DIY, as are the speakers on my stereo. Someday I’m going to build a small (30-40 watt) combo amp for when I play guitar for church. Brion |
