I have heard thats one of the most beautiful parts of Australia and have alwayse meant to do a road trip from Melbourne to Canberra - well one day!

There's some unusual music at womad and I should get off my **** and see more of it, when something is on your door step you do tend to take it for granted.

So - do you aspire to build audio or have you started already?

Im thinking of having a go at a turntable or fix up a few of the ones Ive got. Im not an electronics sort of fella. I admire people who are. I was looking for Diy turntables and ended up here. I own a cabinet making shop so thats one bit of the problem out of the way I suppose. Im always looking around for things to muck around with. I do quite big miles in my work ute and just fitted a dvd player and monitor inside. It spins out some of the young blokes when you turn up on the job !!! Sounds great by the way.
That trip is well worth it by the way. Drop a line if your thinking of doing it. Seeya Tim

Tinkering with old turntables sounds like fun and I'm sure that there are plenty of people here that will help with the harder bits.

The dvd player sounds great, The misses and myself used to do a lot of traveling and I built a canopy for the back of the ute, we were going to put a car dvd player in it but at the time they were around $5,000 but I,m sure they have come down in price by now.

I do a bit of cabinet making myself, Kitchens etc and just made some 3.5 mtr jarrah bench tops to fit some antique cupboards for a national trust house, they turned out well. I,m just a general builder and use a Triton set up for that kind of work. It,s nice to use Australian made tools when you can.

With all that cabinet making equipment you could produce some excellent speakers and the electrical side of it is not that hard once you start.

Cheers

Default Jarrah

Hi Barn. Yeah I made some new cabinets for an old pair of ARs. Jarrah as well. Its such a beautiful timber. I will get serious about it one day when I have some spare cash to get some nice drivers.
I just dont get excited going in to a hifi shop and seeing a tiny pair of speakers that cost $3000 with the salesman telling me about the difference in sound between the veneers!!!!
Whats your fancy on these pages ? Speaker builder ? We should put our heads together for fun. Cheers Tim

Hay Tim.
Yes, my limit is speaker building, I would love to have a better understanding of electronics so that I could build amps but unless you continualy do that sort of work it's hard to keep up with the changes let alone comprehend it all.

I have just finished ( well, stopped for a while ) building 2 pair of speakers and decided to sit back and enjoy the fruits of my labour, so to speak.
The drivers, cross overs and cable in the 2nd pair cost $1,200.00 so yes the cost does add up but to purchase similar speakers retail would cost around 5 times that amount and when you D.I.Y theres that extra warm, fuzzy feeling of I did it my way ( no- I'm not a Sinatra fan ).
Barn.
