I'm a fairly old (53) audio/HiFi/DIY buff who has completed a few projects over the years and I must admit that I also have left a few unfinished ones behind.

It all started with a three year course in electronics in the sixties as color TV's were introduced, so at least I got to look inside one before the course ended!

But as things developed in my life, I have come to work with most things, except electronics, apart from installing and also developing a few alarm systems for a few years.

My interest in HiFi, started in the early seventies, as I had just bought my first stereo, a DUX with a pair of octagon shaped speakers, which BTW I was mighty proud of, up until one of my friends, with his facial expression let me know that he wasn't all that impressed with my purchase. :devilr: Then he invited me to his home, so that I could listen to a real stereo!
But it took me a while before I was passing through his naborhood and as I rang his doorbell he asked me in, just to remember, that he had sold his amp a few days earlier, but then he immediately said that it did not matter really. So he went in to the kitchen to pick up a small transistor radio, to which he then connected one of his speakers.

What happened next, has made an irrevocable impression on my future life, and has forever made me stick with JBL. You can imagine my facial expression and my total disbeliefe, as my jaw was dropping to the floor when this single loudspeaker, a 4530 BTW, almost blew the window away although it was only driven by this tiny little kitchen radio. :cannotbe:

Since then I have built a few JBL speakers and I see absolutely no reason to ever use anything else.

Then during a period, I was into rallying and scuba diving and after that I got totally burnt out during the early nineties, during which time my financial status also was nonexistent, if you catch my meaning, so my interest in HiFi had to be put on the backburner for a while.

Burt then slowly but surely, the urge came back again, as I recovered both mentally and financially. OK, not like before, but still manageable. But hey, I'm not complaining, though my HiFi budget, mostly has to be on a shoestring budget and whatever I buy has do be well thought thru.

Now recently, I found out about class-D amps, thru a big Swedish HiFi forum where I'm a member and after having discussed most of the options there, I decided to go for the Hypex modules UcD180 and let me tell you, I haven’t regretted that choice.
After a short burning in period, the sound they produce is sending mi strait to HiFi Nirvana!

So I'm already on my way to build a few more of these amps and also one or two of the larger ones, so that I can run all my JBL's active. :D

Surely you must have guessed it by now, I do love to DIY.
I also love to share what ever I have managed to pick up over the years and I'm truly grateful for whatever others are prepared to share with others, and me without all this consumerism and commercialism, which in my mind is slowly suffocating us all. I my self, am quite happy to give up almost anything EXCEPT THE MUSIC!

Roland,

I am the guy who bought your active powered Fostex 15'' sub earlier this summer. Your system was impressive. Or to put it another way - it blew me away! What drivers were you using, i remember the double 2215's for the bottom end and 075/2402's for the top, but what about the middle? Did you get the Behringer digital crossover or are you looking for an analog active crossover?

Also, have you fired up those short Tractrix style horns with the 2441/2445 compression drivers?

I am piling up on JBL Pro parts for my next system but since I am still on a student's budget it will most likely not come true before next year. Got the 077/2405's though. Gotta love that JBL Pro sound!
;)

Hi Magnus!

Glad to hear from you!

I've got two 2215H up to 63Hz, two 2225H up to 300Hz, two 2110A up to 800Hz, yes, and then I'm using those magificent 2445J with the Selenium horn above 800 and the 075 x-overed passive with 1uF only.
It's just awsome and yes I'm now using one Behringer UltraCurve DEQ2496 and two UltraDrive DCX2496 although only one is connected to the drivers for now, totally digital and active.

You should come and listen some day as soon as I get my CD-player back from the repair shop. I'm quite disappointed with the Sony service. They wont even respond to my questions and my arguments. They simply repeat, like a parrot, that my problems are not linked to the known problem, with drop-outs on the SACD XB940. It's really annoying.

BTW! Anyone else having this problem?

/Roland
