I'm here to learn more about building audio gear. I just ordered a small tube amp kit (the S5 Electronics 8 watt stereo one) and wanted to learn more. Also I have some interest in building speakers and I figured it'd be a good place to learn.
What else... hmm, I'm a sophmore at Temple University in Philadelphia, studying business and computer science. I run a site TUSwap.org which lets students there trade books without getting ripped off by the bookstore. I also spend lots of time on the vwvortex.com car lounge.

Welcome Andrew
Our Tubes forum is quite a lively place to hang out too! It's my favourite forum. After your first few posts, they'll appear immediately, making some discussions near-realtime. Enjoy, |

Welcome,
The people who have built the S-5 seem very satisfied with it, and there certainly isn't a kit out there with such a low bar for entry... dave

Hey there.
I'm a DIY novice from PA too. I just bought the Foreplay preamp as my intro to tubes. Haven't started it yet, I'll wait until it gets cold out and I get cabin fever. Anyway just thought I'd say hi. Let me know how the s5 kit turns out. I'm 28 and live about 1.5 hours outside of Philly and have access to a great metal working shop. Contact me if you want. pottsvillain@hotmail.com

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I'm from Havertown about a 30 minute drive to Temple...I've been an audiophile for a good 20 years now but have never done any d-i-y stuff before...one day I'll learn because it seems very interesting...I'm mostly into tube gear but just recently got a rare Onix SS integrated amp...I've owned a few custom amps built by others and think they are just as good (if not better) than the other commercial electronics I've owned...good luck building your stuff.
