I have noticed that my google searches often bring me to this forum so I figured that I ought to go ahead and join since there is such a huge knowledge base here.

Back in the 80's I earned a BS in Electrical Engineering but never actually used it. After graduating I worked in the computer networking field for about six years but have been completely out of the technical job market.

I am currently out of work and decided that it was time that I tried to relearn as much as I could at least for my own gratification. It is amazing how much I have forgotten.

I am very involved in music and so it is only natural that I start with a related project. I am repairing a Korg PolySix synth. that had a nasty battery leak. When I got to the point that I needed parts (and thus money) I had to put that on hold (remember the unemployment?). I dug out the old text books and decided to build a modification of a power amp design that I found there to use with the Korg. I got the prototype up and running using only stuff from my junk bin. I have no idea what the distortion is like since the only test equipment that I have is a VOM. I haven't put it completely together yet because I need to buy heatsink compound and mica washers for the TO-220 output devices (dont wan't the chasis at +20V).

So I noticed that I have an unused 12V power supply with a 2N3055. Hmmm.... Sounds like a SE class A amp project in the making. I will be posting in the Solid State forum about that project shortly.

In the long run I want to get involved with vacuum tubes as that is the most interesting area for me. I am sort of a retro kind of guy (I really like single action revolvers and Lever action rifles too).

Well I guess that post is an excersise in "too much information"
