New guy trying to build an igloo beach boombox

Hey guys, many time reader but first time joiner!

My hobby is mainly trucks, specifically making them faster. My daily driver is a 2003 Tahoe Z71 that I've cammed, supercharged and has full bolt ons. The stereo is an Alpine headunit with two older PPI amps powering PPI components in the front doors and a single JL 10". I don't remember any specs or names as the stereo components were recommendations from a friend who knows car audio.

My goal this spring is to build a cooler boombox for the beach. I was thinking two 7.5" marine speakers powered by a 2 channel 75w amp, with a ipod going directly to the amp and power coming probably from a golf cart battery. I have looked at Aquatic AV and Fusion for marine speakers, but no idea on amps (I like PPI but am open to anything).

Suggestions for amp and speakers? I don't need anything competition level, just something loud enough to take on the beach and hear from 30 ft. I want marine speakers so I can hose down the outside. My budget is about $200 for amp and speakers, less than that would be better.

May I recommend searching the threads on "The Boominator". Lots of good ideas and includes a solar panel. with the right amps and charger circuit, you can make one that takes a much smaller battery and will play all day with a little sun light. I built a similar unit in a box the size of a carry on roller case and separate solar panel, using a 7.5 Ah gel cell battery, two 10 inch woofers back to back, and piezo tweeters, and a T-amps (from eBay). It is a big hit for outdoor sound with no wires other than what is needed to connect an mp3 player. cheers, Joe
