Grounding is everything! Phono preamps are devilishly difficult to get quiet until all the grounding secrets are well internalized. For this circuit, I'd make sure that, besides quiet power, you have common ground at the inputs and a combo of star and bus.

Yep, tube phono stages can be a challenge. Mine looks lik a complete rat's nest, but it's quiet -- Basically everything is star grounded.
