I found this site a while ago whilst looking for modding ideas for a Philips CD650 I've owned for 26 years... I finally joined because I always had a soft spot for the Philips 16x4 sound, and wanted to see what folk are doing with the the old player. I also have an internally almost identical CD473 to tinker with, as well as another poorly CD650 and a considerable pile of other vintage hifi, some interesting, and some not so interesting. Too much, really. 
I'm up in the North Midlands, UK, and my background is in industrial electronics and process control. I've repaired quite a few bits of audio equipment over the years, but never really had much time to do anything interesting for many years!
