Default Hello from Rocket City

Hello from Huntsville, AL. Well, Madison actually, which is just a few miles west. I work in Huntsville, so unfortunately that means that I get to drive into the sun in the morning and afternoon, but I DO get to drive past a Saturn V rocket every day.

I'm an electrical engineer with expertise in RF and test. I enjoy occasionally building a circuit or two for myself, unless I can find what I want off the shelf for stupid cheap. I've never built an audio circuit for myself, but I've read several articles, and found them interesting, and I'd like to take a shot at a couple. I'm really intrigued with the idea of bi-amping, tri-amping, and active crossovers, which of course, simplifies speaker design & construction. My problem is, I'm cheap, and I don't know if a high performance audio system can be justified given that I can't hear anything over 11KHz. So, at some point, I'd like to build something not too expensive to see if I can appreciate the difference.

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know that, in your position, I could resist swiping some metal off the Saturn 5 just to make into a fascinating heatsink or chassis...

You will hear the difference! Much of the excellence of a truly first rate system is in the mid-range and lower treble. You WILL hear it immediatlely. Go to a first rate stereo shop and ask to hear their best system. Be sure to take some program material with which you are familiar. Prepare to be astounded (if the folks running the place know their business). Regards

Thank you.

I kinda think that they might object to scavenging off the most notable landmark in the city.

Welcome to the forum bemore...

Along with HF hearing loss with age, you gain experience to compensate. As hinted at earlier most of the music is in the midrange -- besides 11k means you are only missing an octave at the top (and only in one of the 2 hearing mechanisms).
