Hi there,
I'm Jan from The Hague - The Netherlands. I'm totally not a DIY person(although I have a technical degree, learned soldering more than 10 years ago haven't done it since), but a few weeks I got triggered in a shop. The guy was selling own designed speakers which were also available as DIY package where the wood is already made to the correct size. There I've been listening to a pair of 200 Euro speakers(TL) which were sounding quite good and detailed. Now in a few weeks I will make another listening session in an other shop where I will choose one of the cheapest models to test my DIY skills. From there I will see what will be the next step; Failure = searching the expensive brands for better speakers than I have. Success will mean probably the build of some more exclusive speaker. thanks for reading and hopefully I can learn a lot here! Jan |

Hi Jan, welcome to diyAudio. This is a great place to cut your teeth. Careful though, it can be very addicting.

Thanks!
Just have informed my friend in my plans and he'll join/copy me. Luckily he's a little bit more handy than I am. We can share tools and he already has a soldering iron. Soon we'll organize a listening session together to make a choice. |

One thing to remember: building your own stuff may well cost more than buying it off the shelf, once tools and test gear are taken into account. The sense of satisfaction makes up for it.
