I've been a professional in audio for a bit more than forty years, building loudspeakers, mixing consoles, designing systems, doing sound for theatres, cinema, concerts, discs, touring with giant rock and roll shows or mixing for TV. Now I seem to have gravitated to studio work, nice little THX certified 5.1 system, and proselytising surround sound and decent acoustics.
And every stage of it seems to have involved diy, make do and mend. So I may have a few useful insights to share. There again, of course, I might be merely a dinosaur bumbling through, too slow to notice that I've gone extinct. |

Hi chrispenycate,
anyone with your experience will have alot to offer this forum. What are your main personal interests with regard to DIY Audio. Have you spent much time on this site or are you new to it? I thoroughly enjoy using this site and have found it very useful in my very low level DIY Audio experiments. With your expertise you will have a very interesting time. Welcome aboard. |

Hmm. I just checked my personal details and I've been posting (irregularly) since 2006; and it's only now that I've discovered the introductions. Valve/tube circuits (the only way to do decent audio when I started), loudspeakers, and now room acoustics…
Which leaves live sound, recording, microphones and soundproofing among my as yet untapped expertise. Quote:

As it happens, I'm doing a recording project (Austin has an embarrassment of talented musicians), so your expertise will absolutely be tapped.
