Hi,
I'm 22 years old and live in germany since 1998. (born in Kiew, Ukraine) Well, I am active in some german HiFi-forums scince 4-5 years and found here by searching after the "holy grail" (still searchin') After "Loudspeaker Cookbook - Vance D." and numerous white papers, 1st hand DIY "experiences" and patents readings (of course pretty much all of them are in english language; it was hard in the beginning ) I still want more OK, to speed it up: I want diy Audio to expand my knowledge so i could finaly bild some nice speakers ( I've already cast an eye on some VERY interesting topics here greetings from south-germany Andreas B. |

Hello Andreas - and Welcome to diyAudio!!!
Mostly English spoken here - and not necessarily good English - but we do have many that speak in German (even Ukraine) so there is help around if the language gets to be a problem.

Breslaan, I wasn't there in the Olympic days, as I could be considered an "import from Ireland" but I have now taken on their nationality"!
You have some very well respected speaker builders in Germany....I speak of Manger, for example. I am a follower of their Driver Units. I don't have the ability to prove or disprove their claims but I do have experience listening to their driver units for some years. What do you think of Manger Drivers? Don't feel you have to massage my positive thoughts.....I only listen to honest reflection! I welcome effective criticism. Reeler

Hello Reeler,
I never heard Mangers "Biegewellenwandler". I know the principle and some time ago i was pretty interested in it but it was/is too expensive for me (student). The basic idea for this driver follows the point source ideal. I know Manger wanted to create a point source-like sound source with a perfect square wave reproduction. I heard it hasn't pleased some folks with, as they say: limited SPLmax but the others are usually reporting phantastic deepness and "air"/"openness" in the soundstage. One negative thing I heard (read) somewhere was that the polar response is quite uneven? But I don't know. I have big respect and interest for unique and thought out things, like the mangers as just the unique features of this driver, at least on paper, promisse a better approach to the legendary point-source ideal with constant phase-response, and perhaps it is just more important at the end of the day than max spl. In any case I know we shouldn't judge an idea/ a theoretical approach by judging the physical driver, build with limited technology. PS: I would want to hear it someday ![]() Breslaan |
