Well, Hello first off. I'm Marty, currently a low level diy car audio guy soon to test the waters of diy home audio. I don't install, compete, or have anything to do with either audio industry as a career, I'm just a DIY'er at heart. I'm currently an undergrad, hopefully graduating this semester!, headed towards a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering. I was going to double major in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, but decided to just keep those as hobbies since the majors programs were not to my liking. Needless to say, I am well prepared for DIY audio!
I'll be 'testing the waters' first with a BiB build using Dayton's RS100 full range drivers. These speakers will be short little guys, the line length is only 84 inches, so I might be inverting them for floor loading. (I think I said all that right...) After those are built, I'll probably try my hand at building a small chip amp or two, probably start with a LM3875 kit, then work my way up to a gain clone dual mono. I better stop or I'll have to wipe up the drool again. And of course, thanks to everyone for the massive amount of information here! Cheers, Marty |

Hi Marty - and Welcome to diyAudio!
It seems you already have the bug pretty bad - so it might be to late to heed my standard warning for newbies - which is - RUN! Run for the nearest exit while there is still time and sanity and money and friends and floor space left!!!! OH well - at least you can talk to Dave about the BIB's.

It's only downhill from here, unfortunately! My available floor space will increase ten or twenty fold within the next six months, and hopefully my income will as well! Although twenty times zero is still zero, but you get the idea.
Either way, yes, this is a VERY addicting hobby! |
