Hi Joe - and Welcome to diyAudo!
In another life I worked for a computer company out near Springfield MA and my brother still calls Mass. home as well. There are some tips on interconnects and speaker cables around the threads somewhere and making cables out of CAT 5 wire seems to be in favor with a few of the inmates here. Good Luck with your projects - esp when it comes to actually hooking up those cables to some DIY amps and speakers!
