I'm very pleased to introduce myself in the community. My interest for audio came first from my interest for music 40 years ago when I bought step by step my first system : Hitone H300 amplifier (7591As) which was called here "the French Mcintosh", Garrard 401 with SME. My first loudspeakers were just for listening. Several years after I could buy what then pleased me: one pair of ESS Tower with the great Heil. I never had one problem of reliability with the Heil ribbons which never broke.
I sold recently these ESSs because I wanted to improve the low part of the spectrum. I stuck to the Heils which I like very much and made a new TQWT for a 315mm boomer (sens. above 98dB/W/M) build like a tank from Michel Fertin (France). My listening consists basically in LPs (ca 25,000) played on a Micro-Seiki RY5000 with 3 arms/cartridges : one for the monos, one for the SH not so good stereos, and the last for the cream of my LPs : some french Eratos, Decca from UK, Living Stereo from UK, Philips from Holland. I read with interest the thread concerning the new ESS/Heil : what a pity that sensitivity is so low ! |

Bonjour' lagloriet and Welcome to diyAudio
I'm using the Great Heils (AMT1's) and enjoy them very much. I once lived in Sacramento California and knew a couple of people that worked over at ESS so I had an early introduction to this speaker and have always loved the AMT 1's. I also got away from using the ESS speaker cabinets - but that is another story for another time. Do you have any photo's of your speakers? I always enjoy seeing what others have done to improve on the use of this speaker.
