Default Greetings - New Member Checking In

My name is Mike French, "Moke".
Moke is a 35 year old nickname given to me in high school.
I'm from southern California, behind the Orange Curtain.

I've had audiophiliac tendencies since the early 70's.
My first rig was a Dual tt -> Kenwood integrated -> Saras speakers (garage made brand by JBL engn'r) from about '74'ish.
I went from that rig to a David Hafler pre/amp pairing -> ADS L10 bookshelfs (apartment size system) around '87
I'm presently running a mixed front end of digital and analog gear -> Plinius 8150 (factory hotrod'd to 8200, with dealership upgrade) -> AnalysisPlus bioval 9's -> Soliloquy 6.3's

In '82, I was introduced to live music recording, and it became a balance of life obsession, ranging thru thousands of concerts.
I now record extensively in the classical / chamber and world music genre (not much interest in r&r).
I record in a fashion that captures the essence of the perofrmance, as it plays out in the hall, live, complete with audience, hall reverberation, etc.. called ambient recording -- two channel stereo recording, "live to "tape"" (now live to CF card).
I am a mod at www.taperssection.com -- a forum dedicated to live music recording.

I blunder allot with electronic mods, including such notorious manuevers as dremelling off crucial components, and, then having to fix those blunders, or, create workarounds. So I've gotten fairly decent at repairing my own gear and mistakes.
I fabricate lots of mechanical components to support my recording addiction, such as custom mic mounts, stereo t-bars, make cables (from store bought bulk cables and terminations), and other field recording related paraphernalia.
I got so into live recording, that, that was all I listened to for nearly two decades -- my own recordings.
I just got back into my vinyl collection that I started back in the heyday of vinyl lp as the dominant category. I bought the new rega p3-24, and found this forum in looking for support for that, and, possible upgrades, eventually.
My first post to this forum was in posting pictures of my newly finished record cleaning machine, the Vactrola, built around an old, non-functioning, Victrola cabinet (previously gutted, with no sound components in it).

I doubt that I'll have much to contribute here, beyond anecdotal, as you guys are way over my head into this playback thing, and the building of your own gear (bravo!). But I find it fascinating, what little I understand of it.

thats it,... just checking in

edit: fixed a few fat-finger typos.

Mike
