My name is Damian im 27 and live in the north east of england.
Been woundering around the forums for a month or two now and the first thing i have to get off my chest is DAMN YOU ALL AND THIS INFERNAL HOBBY!!! Its so addictive, built my first LM3886 amp with a Chipamp.com kit and i think its great, my ears arnt as refined as most of yours but that will come over time i expect. Im now planning my purchase and modification of a dac, custom build of a CD transport and all working towords my goal of a fully custom built DIY hi end HIFI unit, im looking into tubes for pre amps and so on. My head is a spin but one step at a time Well my empty pockets, angry girlfriend and me would like to thank you all for introducing me to the world of DIY Audio, its great!!!! |

Hello and welcome kanifee. Glad you've come to terms with your addiction and just given in. Sure beats fighting it.
Cheers. |

Ahhh - Damian, Damian, Damian. If only you had taken the time to introduce yourself when you registered back in April I would have provided you with my standard "Welcome to diyAudio" which usually goes something like "Get the HE** out while you still can".
I'm afraid that it looks to be a bit to late for that warning now - and your admission that you are powerless over your addiction can be the first step towards redemption and perhaps sanity (perhaps). The best hope that I can offer you is that with careful attention you can still remain fairly functional in regards to keeping your job, personal relationships, and food in the fridge. On the other hand your bank account is at great risk - and it would be best if you turned that over to a responsible 3rd party. Lots of Luck Mate!

The bank account i fear to say has allready been beaten to within an inch of its life, along with me by the missus
Can we start a not so annonymous DIY audio holics annonymous, i think it would be extremely responsible for the site to monitor the problems its members are having dealing with the addiction. They allways said the first step to recovery was to admit to having a problem, though i expect like a drug addict feels however wrongly im pretty sure i dont want cured, just learning how to deal with it and intergrate it in to everyday life so i may still function as a normal human being. |

There are several other addicts living in the North of England.
Perhaps you should get together to mutually solve your problems? Andy

Hello. Yes I am one of them. Unfortunately, meeting up and discussing our addiction only makes the situation worse. Rousing my competitive spirit, I am now in full-steam ahead to make my cd player even better, so I can beat the other Northern Addicts the next time we meet! Regards, Lee.

I had a friend who was a member of AA.
It was Athletics Anonymous. If you had the urge to do physical activity you could ring up another member who would come around and drink with you until the urge went away.

I was away from this "habit" for some 30 years and swore that I would not indulge myself again into thinking I could catch the illusive ghost of audio bliss - - - - . Well you see where that oath has landed me - right back here among this lot!!
