Default Hi everyone

Hey alljavascript:smilie(''),
I'm new to the forums, and relatively new to diy audio. Right now I'm trying to put a system together and I need to make some interconnects. I want to insulate the wires with cotton but am having an extremely difficult time finding the cotton to do this with. I can't even figure out what the conventional name for such a item would be. Without this most basic information, I can't find anything (except the stuff that is advertised as wire insulation or cotton sleeves/tubing) and the cost on this stuff is prohibitive at best. javascript:smilie('') Does anyone know where to find this kind of insulation? I'm also at loss on where to find wire for a reasonable price. Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Randall

Welcome to the forums Randall.

The insulation around wires is known as the dielectric. In layman terms, it means something that doesn't conduct.

Hi Cal,
Thanks for the welcome. I know that the insulation is called the dielectric but I'm trying to find bulk rolls of cotton wire insulation and haven't found anything but this stuff that is rediculously expensive (because it's being sold as wire insulation). If I just knew what this kind of "cord" is called or where to look, I sure I could find some for a good price. If tried looking for it on google with some of the following: hollow cotton braid, tubular cotton drawcord, cotton pipe cord, filler cord, cable cord, hollow cable cord, bulk cotton shoelace, lace cord, hollow braid cord, cotton tubing, etc, etc, etc. Am I the only one having this problem or is DIY audio for those that don't have a problem importing from abroad what basically amounts to shoelace on a roll for something like $3.00/ft???
