Default Greetings

Being a fanatic about music.....I have decided to launch into the DIY world of Tube type Amps! First project will be a S-5 K-16LS.
It is on the way, along with a box full of upgrades.....

Also new to the forums. Currently studying electronics at university.

My 16LS is on its way. Should be here tomorrow.

Looking forward to building and testing it. Would be interested to hear about upgrades.

Saw someone mention in another thread about using Edcor CXPP25-8-5k output transformers. Anyone got any experience with these?

Would it be worth using different valve sockets? I really want to mount them off the board on the chasis. Can anyone see any problems with this?

Most of what I found as far as upgrades is on this site:
http://diyaudioprojects.com/Tubes/

Also there are several threads already going about S-5 amps.

Good luck with the build!

Thanks,

Just finished it last night. Sat listening to my favourite albums now and the sound is awesome. A big improvement on my $500 amp.

I've built it entirely stock and must say I'm very impressed by the sound.

At 16 watts I was not expecting it to be this loud. I have it at under quarter volume and it's plenty for normal listening levels.

What a great buy!

...now for the mods!

Took this photo last night...

There is a bit of a blue glow to the 6005 valves, should I be worried?
