i was wondering how to build an rf amp, i have an understanding how and could figure one out but i was wondering if there are any sites that have free insrtuctions on how to build one

When i read rf amp, i read "radio frequency" amp. If that is true, i don't think there's a lot of reading here.
But.... There's a lot of capable persons i'm sure

To me your question sounds like, "How to swim?" It's a complex question.

Anyway, if what you mean with "RF Amp" is something like 2.4Ghz amplifier, or 1.5Ghz GPS LNA. You should check Avago. They made easy to use MMIC. No discrete transistor.

All you need is to know is:
1. How to do impendance matching or microstrip basic.
2. Proper biasing of MMIC
3. And the hardest part, the antenna.
