As a firm believer in the need to have a couple of healthy obsessions I find myself drawn back to DIY audio.
So here I am!! Having recently retired as a TAFE teacher in the Engineering faculty and moved to sunny Queensland I am in need of a pair of smallish speakers for my 3m x 4m listening/computer room. I will be using Vifa xt25 tweeters & p13 or p17 mid/bass with paper-in-oil caps &12g inductors 1st order c/o Over the years I have built speakers, amps & turntables with varying degrees of success. Recently learning how to use a mac & photoshop has kept my photography obsession alive & well. I also hope to meet other QLD audio tragics via this forum. My small listening room system has locally built (not by me)25w el34 p/p monoblocks a modded Denon DN961 FA C/D modded acrylic Transcriptor skeleton SME 3009 with DL103r &Denon AU320 transformer, Marantz ST400 tuner & Perreaux SM3 pre The large (6x9) room/theater has my ESL57's driven by DIY se 6c33cb 18w monoblocks, a DIY acrylic T/T with outboard ac motors, modded RB300 ,Super Elys, Meridian 506/20 and Meridian 201 pre. As you can see none of my gear is new but I reckon it sounds orright! My favourite listening while on the mac or C/D is female jazz- Holly,Diana,Joni, Ella, KD, Nora, Jennifer, Peggy,Sarah. I am an unashamed Tom Waites fan. Vinyl is anything from Pink Floyd to Mozart I listen to tinnitus too.......... |

Greeting waricle. Nice to meet another Joni ("The Thinking Man's Blonde") Mitchell fan. Moved to Qld from where exactly? We migrated from Vic 10 yrs ago. There is an active DIY speaker thread started earlier this year in Brissie. They've had meetings already. Jonathan
