Default Hi everybody!

I have been a an active participant in the DIY forum at Pink Fish Media for a year or more, but only now got round to signing up here.

I am originally from NZ, and first got involved in DIY audio when at high school. During my time at university (late 70s/ eraly 80s), I developed a pre-amp which was shown to various people, and came to the attention of an NZ manufacturer called Maclaren. My design formed the basis of the Maclaren 402 and 602 designs, which were exported to 15 countries - in the US they were handled by Audioquest.

I moved to the UK in the mid 80s, and worked as a scientist, doing quantum optics then superconductivity. My electronics knowledge came in handy for building a lot of our instrumentation. I didn't do much audio stuff, but stayed in touch with a friend who was still doing stuff, who sold me one of his DIY turntables, which I still have.

In 2000, I moved to a job in IT, and have started to do a bit of DIY audio in the last few years, refurbishing my Maclaren amps, fixing the DIY turntable, recapping my speakers and so on.

My handle is a reference to one of our horses - an eventing stallion called Battleton Phoenix who is called Piglet at home.

Hi PD,
