Took a look at Trout's mod. Thought about what happens to the signal and realized that it is on its way to being a James tone control. Opened up Duncan Tonestack Calculator and changed R3 to 1 ohm, C2 to 4.7n, C1 to 100n, C3 to 250p, C4 to 10n. Not exactly the same circuit but you can see similarities to the way the E series tone controls work and why Trout's is more workable.
