Straight, yet pretty obvious, question: Why don't you just copy the circuit from an amplifier you like?

Any particular features/effects you're looking for?

Just copy the Preamp from any Tube amp you Like and build that and Connect the Output to a Non-Inverted Gainclone (LM3886) with an Impedance Buffer between the 2 stages (Transformer coupled or maybe even an Opamp Buffer)......

I have an all Solid State LM3886 Guitar amp I have built and it sounds pretty good and goes quite loud.....

The problem with Mixing Tube and solid state is that most Tubes run off of quite high Voltages were the LM3886 runs at fairly low Voltages so you will Probably need to use 2 seperate Power supplies and Probably 2 seperate Power transformers for the Pre and Poweramp stages unless you can Find a Transformer that has the correct taps to supply the right Voltages and enough Current for both stages......

Good luck

Default Found this thread...have questions

I want to make an LM3886 chipamp "head" to be used with a variety of guitars. I have an existing 4 ohm Jensen C15N speaker enclosure rated at 50W rms, 100W peak Musical.

I want to include a Volume pot, a Bandaxall 100/5k hz tone stack, as well as utilize the "mute input" function on the LM3886 when tuning, etc. Preferably the circuits can handle 1 Meg input impedances, or similar "guitar" related input loads.

I have working knowledge and skills of amplifiers and electrical equipment, I am not a EE or seasoned amp techie. I work on the tube amp I have now myself, graduate Mech Engineer, PE, etc.

I see building blocks in the marketplace for the various board kits and components, and I see a few of you have maybe built what I seek, or at least something similar.

Please respond to start an exchange, Thanks.

I have Built a few amps like this useing the LM3886 for Guitar/Bass.....

The simplest way i believe would to build a Guitar Effect Pedal that has Overdrive and a Tonestack and put that in front of a LM3886.....

If you want to do this in a Kit you could simply get a Mono Chip amp kit with a power supply and Transformer (20v,0v,20v would be good for a 4 ohm load) from chipamp.com...

and then get a Pedal kit from :

http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/...id=7&Itemid=45

And then you would just need to put it together and mount it in a Chassis.....

If you wanted to just build your own PCB"s and possibly save some money then there are lots of PCB designs arround for the LM3886 and also for many guitar pedals....

Cheers
