I know there's several preamp threads but i just want to know whats the best one, so....
I'm thinking about building a preamp for my Bass guitar...initially i will be using it for some extra gain so i can connect to my Pc line in instead of mic input. Later on it will be connected to a regular power amp. I'm searching for some nice EQ setting (like in A. Kreutzers preamp) but some integrated effect and a footswitch would be nice too (i think this could be made by combining separate circuits?). Or maybe i should go just for separate stompboxes? Would Albert Kreutzers preamp be the best DIY around or is there a DIY tube preamp out there that would be better? And btw, my bass is active (form what i heard, its with passive pickups and only the eq is active) so it could be nice if i could maybe have a low/high input switch also. |

hi , i built several bass preamps for my self ...
in the solid state i think the A.Kreuzer one is the best , it has active & passive Inputs ( i cahnge the active input cuz my bass is like urs " passive pickups & active electronics " i remove the active input and change it to a bright input ) 3 band active eq and everything u want from a preamp ( lo-cut , u-hi , u-lo Sws ,, tuner out and ... ) , and it sound really cool ... but if u can go for a tube preamp , go for it , i tried the Ampeg v3 preamp ... and i LOVE the sound much more , it s so great ... it will not cost that much to build both of them and they are both too simple , built them both and see which one will satisfy u ... and now i m tryin to clone 3 big circuits ... v3 preamp and a 6band Eq and a sansamp as a gain booster at the end ... if u intersted contact me , i ll sned u the files ... Hope it Helps ...
