Default AMPEG amp convert

Good day

A friend of mine owns an Ampeg VH150 quitar amplifier and he ask me if there any possibility to convert it from solid state to tubes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Chris

Nope... everything is entirely different. The only thing you might be able to use over is the speaker, cabinet, knobs, and face plate... really.

Yes that is what I was thinking...
Do you know the sensitivity of the speaker units on VH150?
I was thinking of building a tube amplifier and use only the speakers and cabin from the Ampeg amp.

I build power amps using tubes for HIFI but never for instrument before.
So please Im going to need some help on this.

Tubes are not an issue, I have almost any type of them

Thanks

Build him a tube preamp.
One with a couple of stages so that one stage can overdrive the next.
Or look to building in a Paia Stack-In-A-box into the head.

Build him a fender clone.
Lots of schematics are available and I'm in the proccess of building a 80 watt 'black face' Twin for myself.

I ran across this in another forum.
Take a look at:

(It's a little dated)

then do a little blind test yourself and your friend and see if he really can hear a difference.
