Audio phase scope and multi segment meters

Hello all, I have a project idea that I need help with. I am interested in making a rack mounted unit for my studio that contains a phase scope and a large multi segment meter for the stereo buss. The unit would be very simple patch to the output of the definitive device in my recording chain. The unit would have a scope on/off toggle and a meter on/off toggle and a power toggle.
I haven't seen anything like this around. I know the old consoles would have a scope meter on them. This unit could possibly employ a similar needle style scope. Is there a way to purchase the master output section of a console for this purpose? I think building a rack unit is the way to go. I hope some members will have an interest in this kind of device. Please let me know if you are interested to help design this. I am not an engineer but I really think this unit would be great for the studio.

Commercial VU meter units can be purchased. And the circyuit to build your own VU display can be lifted from any schematic that includes one.

Not sure what you mean by phase scope, but if I am right, all you need is any scope that has X-Y capability. One channel feeds the X driver and one feeds the Y driver. The exact signal into the two will create a diagonal line trace. Real signals will be sloppier.

Thanks. I think designing an actual master phase and meter would be very useful in a studio where you can't afford the pro versions. I'll keep looking for a phase scope and a meter schematic.

An audio vectorscope (that's the proper name for it) is an expensive device. Building your own is expensive. The cheapest solution by far is to buy a second-hand <20MHz twin-channel oscilloscope for about £100 and take R to Ch1, L to Ch2, then switch it into XY mode. Choose an older 'scope with a round tube rather than a square one. With the power unplugged, remove the cover, and rotate the tube by 45 degrees clockwise as seen from the back. The effect will be that a mono signal will produce a vertical straight line and out-of-phase will be horizontal. Left will be at 10, R at 2.
