I am looking for a simple IC based Bass Pre-amp circuit to use with a commerical power amp.
I am looking for a schematic or if someone in the US has an old dead bass amp that i could steal the pre-amp section out of. please let me know. it will be used for a cheapo practice rig. email me at tetech2@doitnow.com |

A lot depends what you want?, as a minimum a simple opamp stage with enough gain is all you need. But assuming you want tone controls and such?, there's a popular simple design at albertkreuzer.com .

You might try a second order highpass at 20 Hz to keep very low frequencies from pounding your speakers (depending on your technique, basses can generate tremendous amounts of subsonic energy). The schematic is dead simple, here's a link:

Oops, forgot: make Q = 0.707. Ahh, let's make it easy. For the schematic in Wikipedia, use:
C1 = C2 = .47 uF, R1 = 24K. R2 = 12K. Cheers, Francois. |

Here's a simple preamp with 2 band EQ which works great for bass or guitar (change the EQ points). The gain can be set to drive a power amp just fine.

This one has a very useful active midrange control.

I am thinking about building this preamp cable http://www.till.com/articles/PreampCable/index.html for my bass...but is the 3db gain too low?
I'm usually connecting the bass to my PC but the signal is a bit on the low side, so would this preamp cable be enough or should i just go for Albert Kreutzers JFET preamp? |

The PreampCable isn't really designed to give 'gain' as such, just to help prevent possible losses in the cable.
