Default bass amp troubles and questions

I've had a crate bx100 bass head and a legion sound speaker cab for about 2 years.. I have not been getting a good sound as you could probably tell. I wanted to know if there was something I could do to the amp to maybe get a brighter or punchier sound. also I am going to replace the speaker in the cab and wanted to know the best speaker for this type of thing..thanks

From what I've seen and heard, Crate makes some pretty good equipment. Being only 100 watts, the BX100 may be a little small for what you're trying to do. In order to make suggestions you need to provide a little more info:

Are you using the 15" in the BX100?

What Leigon Sound cabinet do you have - what size and mfg (if you can find out) are the current speakers?

What kind of music do you play the most? In a band?

Is your amp miked and run through a sound system?

What is your budget for making improvements?

No its just a crate head...not sure which model exactly but i know its at least 100 watts...

the cab i use is a EMI-115 made by legion sound

specs are

* RMS power handling-----350 watts
* Peak power handling----- 700 watts
* Ohms----- 8
* Frequency Response----- 30-3,500hz
* Sensitivity----- 98db
* Tuning Frequency----- 40HZ using dual 3x5 port tubes.
* Measurements----- 19 tall x 25 wide x 14 deep
* Woofer Specs----- Knight 15 with cast alum. basket, 50oz. magnet and 3" Kapton voice coil
* Construction Type----- insulated, 5/8" particle board, internally braced, dado, stapled and glued
* Hardware----- Metal corners, bar handles, rubber feet and 18 gauge full face steel grill

The EMI 115 is probably fine. Sure, you could put a much better speaker in it, but that's not going to give you the "crisp" sound that I think you're looking for. 15" speakers are for the bottom end, what you need to do is add something to give you the upper mid-range and highs the 15" will never reproduce.

I noticed Legion has an EMI 210 with 2 10" speakers and a small horn tweeter. They show it stacked on the EMI-115. That would probably be your best option. Otherwise, you would need to add something to what you have to reproduce the high end. Would there be room in the cabinet to add a sound reinforcement type tweeter? Don't waste your time with piezo tweeters, they really sound bad.

Here's one from Pyle for about $62.00 that would work well: http://www.pyleaudio.com/itemdetail....s&model=PDBT38

Another good place to look for speakers/super tweeters: http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htm

You would need a crossover.
