onboard electric guitar/ bass preamp

I found this shcematic on the web.

Can it be used for electric guitar or bass with good results? if so where is the negative of the 9v battery connected?

The schematic you have shown has a low input impedence, of about 1k. It is unsuitable for guitars but great for moving coil microphones, which is its intended purpose.
For guitars you need a high input impedence and less gain. Look for a non - inverting opamp circuit and you will probably be able to modify it to suit.
The battery negative goes to ground, pin 4 of the opamp. It isn't always shown because everyone knows where it goes.

Could someone give me a parts list for this?

And maybe a short giude to soldering it up?
