ultra simple distortion effect

Hello!
I am lookin' for an ultra-easy distortion effect to build. If you guys can help me I would love that coz I have tried to find in google, but couldnt find anything interesting. Plus I dont know too much, so I dont know exactly what is a good, working and easy schematic. So I basically have hard time to find. If you guys can help me that would be Awesome! :) Thanks! :eguitar:
 
This one sounds *great* with either guitar or bass :)

Thank you! But that's the reason I ask it here: I heard that the schematics on the internet are sometimes not good and not working. That's why I ask if you guys can help me finding me a good working one.
As for the guy that gave that last schematic: Thanks alot! I will try that! :)

you can forget the input and output buffer (BF245a and related components).. just straight in the opamp (cap, biased at 4.5Volt).. and striaght out to a 100K pot...... that's how I build them... higly recommended...


offcourse a tube schematic is a totally different game.. both sound and build-wise.. 250Volt on a stomp box is not recommended ......:hot:

another CHEAP AND VERY EASY one to build that is jfet based and has a decent sound if you up the gain a little

I have built it and it did work.
I did change a few things though
the 3M input resistor isn't present on my preamp design
the 51k resistor on the output has been changed toa 47k being that was the closest I had

you can change the drain resistor (2.2k) to change the gain of the amp up or down. larger resistor less gain, smaller resistor for more gain leading to distortion if you go low enough.
 
It would be advantageous to run the circuit off a Mains supply. Those Inverter-based circuits are really sensitive to battery voltage. Quite understandable, as the non-linear point sets in at a certain level below V+ (positive amplitude) and above 0V (negative amplitude). I built such a circuit with adjustable voltage - and there was only one usable setting for the supply voltage, AFAIK. A volt below this - and the thing sounded like ****.

I also seem to remember that those circuits should be built using an even number of inverters in the signal path, as distortion is not symmetrical. After 2, 4 or 6 inverting stages it's evened out.
