Hello!
I am a complete starter in electronics and would like to make a first project, to put the basic knowledge into practice. I've been a bass player for a few years but now I don't have a bass, for unimportant reasons. Anyway, I can get a cheap fretted bass that has a nice resonant and touch. The pickups (1 precision bass type, 1 jazz bass type) and electronics, sux, of coarse. I guess I can take the body to a workshop, to cut bigger holes, if I would like to install different pickups. I would like to install very good components instead. My taste in bass sound varies dramaticly according to what I play. I don't play hard rock but more mellow rock, psychedelic, fusion and jazz. I at least expect from my bass an edgy, forward sound, but not harsh like Musicmans, which IMO lacks sweetness big time. I want a bit of sweetness. A favourite bass of mine is the Warwick Thumb, for example, and the better favourites were custom made, but I can't get details about them, it was long ago. While the Musicman sounds cheap to me, the Ricks sound primal, and I like them very much, but I understand that its better to drop the idea of even coming close to a Rick sound... Any recommedations? Thanks Adam |

Not sure if this is allowed, but seeing how dead this part of the forum is...
You'll probably get better results from a bass only forum such as talkbass.com. I would first do/get a setup before thinking about changing pickups or electronics. |
