I did check out Valve Wizard. I downloaded Ch.1 of the preamp book and found it really helpful. I just ordered both books.

Among other things I learned that the plate resistance is *not* in series with the other resistor like I figured up above...

if you want to roll of highs you could try 1M grid stoppers before the 12ax7s
