Yes. Read the resistance of your speaker and wire setup to make sure it is not overloading the amp. Download an owners manaal from peavey.com and check the rated speaker impedance. Must be higher than rating (probably 4 ohms). Check meter calibration with a known resistor, the tired battery affects the low ohms scale first.
Then download a schematic from eserviceinfo.com or someplace. Search engines are good at finding schematic diagrams. Then with a dvm start looking for discrepancies. If any of the capacitors are rated above 25 VDC, read aikenamps.com tech info button technician safety button about not killing yourself electrically. No jewelry even below 25 VDC to prevent burns.
Hint- 20 year old electrolytic capacitors leak out the water and tend to take out power supply components. How old is your amp?

Schematics are no challenge to find, just contact customerservice@peavey.com and ask for them.

Identify the problem better. Is the sound stopping but the light stays on? Or does the powr light also go off? And will it do this just sitting there? Or only when being played hard?

There is a thermal breaker, so if the amp were way overloaded, it would become very hot to the touch, and the thermal cutout would turn off power until it cooled.

MY first reaction is that your amp probably stays on but sound goes away. Is that the case? The two most likely causes of that are both jacks. One is the headphones jack. It cuts out the speaker when used. WHen your sound dies, do the hadphones keep working? And the other is the power amp on jack, tight next to the headphones jack. PLug a spare cord from Preamp Out to Power Amp In. If that restores the sound, then the power amp jack needs cleaning or service.

The original speaker was 8 ohms, and would have had numbers on it like 70777054 (the part number) or 12820B (the description).
