I don't know why, but it appears grounding the tone pot metal housing induces annoying hiss noise
and increasing string noise as well
also experienced this with other basses

found a place for guitar input buffer
+/-15V is available on input board
and there is enough space for exstra gain by adding jfet input

best allround tone of all I have tried yet
at least for my speaker it is

typically I use caps from 15n to 33n
series resistor varies from 1k to 3k
parallel resistor on pot is typically around 22k
small variations depends on each instrument
