Default click track triggered LED

I want to convert the audio click (metronome) from my DAW to a LED that will flash with the "beat". In order to get the click loud enough for most drummers to hear over their drums, the level is dang near deafening-

As many drummers practice with portable metronomes that have a LED, this seems a solution to deafening my friends and fellow players

I need it to trigger off of the audio output of the click so that it is in-synch with recorded click

I've looked at the LED driver chips for level/clip indicators, but I only need a single LED (red). Ideally a 9 VDC battery (or wall wart) would provide power, and I'm thinking/hoping the old trusty 741 OP AMP will work (and I happen to have some on hand). I thought I'd ask , in case someone knows a simple way before I start experimenting on the breadboard

much thanks in advance!

A comparator + one-shot would probably be an easy solution. Could be built with a single dual opamp.

... wouldn't I need 2 inputs for the comparator to work?
I admit, I don't understand

Inputs to the IC, but not to the circuit. The comparator is a two input op-amp sort of thing, one input is tied to some voltage reference in the circuit, and the other gets your sample signal. When that signal exceeds the reference the comparator toggles.

ah... so I'd need a reference V < than my input signal (peak-to-peak???)

as the input is audio... would a VDC reference work> and would it be + or -? and would it need to be peak-to-peak?

so much to re-learn...
