btw, you would think that such a pressed steel basket would be very lively and 'ringing', but it actually sounds surpricingly 'dead', doing the knockle test
I have heard many cast alu chassies doing much worse

Not a bad idea at all, given how easy it is to deform the steel frame by over-tightening the screws. Bear in mind that MI gear is often subjected to stresses that don't happen in your living room.

but if it works, who cares
now it is a real front horn, with the closed back chamber, like it should be

looks like I have been lucky with the fit

unfortunately I will now have to live with a very big 4way bass speaker

looking at crossover
added a small series inductor to the tweeter, 0.075mH
doubled the series inductor and added zobel to the midrange, now 1.2mH and 10uf/8R2

much better this way
and the unexpected bonus, my bass guitar EQ now works much better
giving airy sound instead of just making it harsh and noisy
very nice

now that its been established I like the midbass horn, and have a good driver, I have thought about redesigning it, and build a more 'practical' size

thought a tower version matching my other 3way main cab would look nice standing beside it

150hz looks spot on with this design(4pi/full space)

another crossover change
much much better
funny to experience the huge impact speaker changes has on instrument 'tuning', and not just the 'tune'
like night and day really
and its still just 'random' leftovers from other projects

my main problem now is preamp/effects
and noise

just to show how much it matters

two changes/adjustments
series 33uf on mid changed to 50uf
zobel on mid got a smaller 6R8 instead of 10R

sounds weird, but these two adjustments really raised the bar
the sounds is best described as right
someone asked about how to get 'hifi bass'
I would say this is how it sounds
