Get one of these.

Despite being made before I was born, there's still plenty of life in there.

Stereo 150w/ch @4ohm (has the voltage swing to do much more - I measured 100V one-way, bridged into 8ohm).

Also has the facility to run with its own active crossover: there's a dial on the back going from 120Hz to 2kHz, and a balance control for between the two. Each channel also has its own FX loop and line out.

I'm running it stereo into my 4x10" cab wired for 2x4ohm.
Effing loud when needed.

Mine cost me £150. There are other models with other features - I've seen basic 100-150w ones go for <£100 on eBay.
But yeah, tonnes of headroom, lots of facility for shaping your sound, and very cheap for what they are.

would be good to have bass/mid/treble control

hey, you may be right about it ;)

looking at stereo unit, and hope to change to using 6 mono controls instead
might be nice being able to switch fast between 2 different settings
and even further, the two 'channels' could also be configured slightly different
that would be for the mid only

woofer might have a simple 2hannel parametric
