I'd like to make an extension cord for a stax electrostatic headphone (SR5). It has a 5-pin connector, and the pin pattern is unusual. I cannot find a supplier for the connectors. Does anyone know where I can find a set of connectors?

The plugs are allegedly unobtainable, I have seen panel sockets.
A real Stax cord (US$91 to 143 new) can be bought from Bluetin Japan. They also show up on eBay. Audio Store Japan Bluetin.com cheers M55

Electrostatic headphone amps have enough V to punch through skin, drive potentially lethal >10mA through you - the cables and headphones should be built to double insulation standards
Some current “Hobbyist” ES amp projects have more joules of stored energy in ps caps than a defibrillator there are additional special requirements of extreme flexibility to avoid mechanical microphonics, and the low C - even with foamed core cables the manufacturer's standard length cables may be >25% of the load presented to the amp by the headphone I think these issues make amateur fabrication of ES headphone cable extensions problematic |
