variant using type 26 directly heated triodes from the 1920's: VinylSavor: Tube of the Month : The 26 , and there were a few interesting technical issues to overcome. But it is working perfectly with my EL-8's and sounds far better than I anticipated it would.
If there is enough interest in such a project, I could write it up and post it here in case anyone wants to play with such a thing. And it does sound mighty sweet. Let me know!
