Default ATH-DN1000USB Audio Technica DNote Digital USB Headphone

Interesting headphone, digital signal only to voice coil / music suddenly appears on Diaphragm.

Audio-Technica ATH-DN1000USB Desktop Headphones | HYPEBEAST

Trigence Semiconductor

it works as..
(1) PCM up to 192/24 oversampled to 11.2896MHz 24bit
(2) Delta Sigma conversion / noise shaping, reduce from 24bit to 4 bit (-4,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,4) 9 level. more than DSD quality
(3) drive 4 voice coils in headphone, each coil is driven by -1/0/1 signal
(4) signal - coil combinations are always shuffled to averaging coil resistance and power.

Default "ALL Digital" DNote system

Not so many information about DNote.
d04.jpg: DNote LSI has FET switch inside, 4 push-pull BTL, which drives 4 coil speaker. Digital signal is converted to 3 to 8 bit 12MHz , then shuffled / assigned to 4 coils.

EEOL_2014JUN04_INT_EMS_NP_01.jpg: only one analog component is speaker cone. even coils do not concern about Analog signal

ns_201212_Trigence_Fig01: DNote LSI function blocks
ns_201212_Trigence_Fig02: Dnote evaluation board, it has 16 resistors at output = 4 coil BTL stereo

Just reacting fast:
I see the coil has multiple windings.

Pondering (its early in the morning ) you don't need a four coil winding, or sixteen for that part: if you use a very high output impedance (current drive, mossiest).
Having four coils in parallel would imply that anyway otherwise the coils electronics would would interfere (counter EMC) with each other anyway.
