I am a hobbist but I don't consider myself an audiophile. I can solder but no schematics... (gives me a headache).
I am considering building a simple cmoy type of a kit, don't want to order all different parts etc. Wondering if anyone have a favorable experience with one of the ready kits on ebay, no tubes, <$30... thanks, gychang

I had been interested in DIY for years but never built anything myself. When I wanted a decent headphone amp some years ago I ended up buying a readymade Decware Zenhead. It turned out to be a very good amp!
About 18 months ago I decided to start building my own gear. Having read the reviews I expected the O2 to better than the already very good Zenhead. I bought a kit (from Jokener on this board; he was still supplying the kits at the time) and built it. It is not bad but nowhere as good as the Zenhead. No, it was not my soldering skills. I have since built a DAC and an Aleph J poweramp and both sound great. I just was not impressed with the O2. You can buy a Zenhead PCB from Decware for $29. The partlist with mouser partnumbers is on their site. ZKIT3 Personal battery operated headphone amplifier kit I know what I would build! Have fun. |

diy4fun: CMoy for Altoids box
I have built one of these and it's very similar to JDS Labs. I paid around 25 euros with parts included.Easy to solder, my first diy job couldnt have been more pleasing. |
