I know, you first answered to my comment about the NOS parts not meeting specs but the Asian parts did meet spec.

For some strange reason there seems to have been a run on these jFETs at DigiKey which used to have a lot of them. As of a moment ago -- JAMECO Elect. has 149 of 2N5457 at a higher price than Digikey - 69 cents. Better hurry.

I know, this is the nth time it's been stated on here about alternative parts, but I'm OCD and first wanted to build it as Mr. Marsh did, so when he said he bought the parts on ebay, I did that as well. (yeah, very OCD!)

However, I have bought the smt versions as well and will also try that in the near future. With all these amps I will be building, I'm gifting them away to my kids and my nieces and nephews who would appreciate something like this.

yes, I bought some of the jfets from Futurlec and the vast majority were duds. Unless you want to practice soldering TO-92's in boards!
