Default heatsink from alu profiles headphone amp

hello everybody,

i wonder if you can use this as a heatsink ?
i would like to use 6cm long (2cm*2cm) for a BD139-16

Click the image to open in full size.

would it work ?
how much K/w would it have?
i know it is not black, but i guess it is better then the average small heatsinks you can buy

thank guys

I will give it a shot...

Capacity is greatly determined by surface area.
If you rely on natural convection, then vertical surface area is what counts.

Using a tube profile, one of the two vertical surface areas is somewhat removed from the heat source. You will be better off using just a piece of 3-6mm think aluminum sheet/plate.

A rough guess for a 6 cm length of that tube profile is 15-20 W/K, if you a are dissipating around 10 W. (The thermal resistance goes up as you dissipate less).

Note that you need airflow - sufficient holes in the enclosure directly below and above the heat-sink. Or, better still, make the heat-sink do double duty as enclosure walls.
