I came across a headphone tube amp running on 12 volts. I'm skeptical about how it would sound as the tube is running in what would normally be considered a non linear range. It is easy to build and maybe someone could comment on how it sounds !
There is also a link to a US NAvy Lesson on tube operation. I haven't read it but it might be interesting to go through it sometime.

The 12AU7, 12FK7, and 12FM7 tubes are 12V tubes, originally designed for automotive radios. The Millett Hybrid MAX and the revised MOSFET-MAX are similar DIY designs that can use the IRF510/9510s as output buffers.
12AU7 ( ECC82 ? ) is a 12 V tube , but that is only the heater voltage.
The operating voltage on the anode is usually much higher than that. Closer to a 100 or so volts. The operating point with very low anode voltage will be in the non linear region . Can anyone who has tried this circuit tell us how 'audible' is the associated distortion ?

Oops. Sorry, hadn't had my coffee. I meant 12AE6... I don't think I'd run a 12AU7 at 12V.
