AUSSIES: Behringer group buy

There is a similar group buy in the US, but Aussies should avoid the temptation to buy from the US as the equipment is not reliable and not designed for our mains power. This is even true where the voltage can be switched. I received this information from the Behringer Australia service centre.

When I get the chance I will be making some calls to find the best prices. As I'm in Melbourne, I will be enquiring with Melbourne suppliers. My intention is to find the supplier offering the best prices. Prices will be negotiated and set. Then those in on the group buy can merely go to to supplier and mention that they are part of the diyaudio group buy, and make their own arrangements of payment and pickup/shipping.

This gives us a good bargaining position. Armed with numbers and prices from the competition, we are in a good position to get the best possible prices.

Behringer have a number of very attractive units for diyers. These include:

* 200 RRP -
Feedback destroyer - useful for parametric eq to tame room modes

* $600 RRP -
Ultracurve DEQ2496 - sophisticated eq, a step up from feedback destroyer

* $500 RRP -
Ultradrive DCX2496 - 3 way digital active xo with up to 8th order slopes and auto phase adjustment

* $350 RRP -
A500 230w studio amp - very similar to a much more expensive Alesis studio amplifier which itself is a bargain at around $589

* $69 RRP -
UB502 mini mixer with mic preamp (for mic preamp measurement?)

* $100 RRP -
ECM measurement mic

Please note: RRP is shown but we may be able to get as much as 30% off RRP I have heard already of people finding the A500 for $250, which is almost 30% off RRP and that wasn't a group buy.

The SRC2496 may be worth a gander, though it seems pretty easy to get at least 20% off RRP just for the asking (in the right places)

Further value on probably the best value brand in their (huge) product line: great idea!

I heard last night at a Melbourne Audio Club meeting that very good Behringer prices can be had from Brisbane Sound Group http://www.brisound.com.au/sales/default.asp (inc free freight).

I'm keen on three items:
- an ECM measurement mic;
- the Ultradrive DCX2496 which also has very versatile EQ (and takes programming from SoundEasy too); and
- one or a pair of the new A500 amp (the Alesis RA500 clone). 160 watts into 8 ohms (aka $1.79/ watt) bridgeable to 500 Watts, and a bit of style too.
Brisbane will sell the A500 for $287 inc GST & freight.

I wonder if it’s similar to the other GB: 5 to make it worthwhile, with bigger price breaks above; ~ or for mixed purchases we can work on $ spent.

Looks like there’s a wait on the DCXs. Behringer: “chip shortage around the world” ~ what is it Ramadan in China??

Hi Rick

The SRC2496 is a totally different beast to the DCX
Used for digital signal manipulation, apparantly good if you feed your CD player digital out into the SRC then digital link into a DEQ2496 followed by a DCX2496.

It came in with version 9, they’re now up to version 11. John K did the work.

I have SoundEasy version 9.0 and it works fine with my DCX2496.
The crossover CAD module in SE has what's called a "modular component" which has configurable parameters that duplicate the DCX2496 capabilities. I haven't yet done an actual design using this process but I see no reason why it shouldn't work perfectly.
In the context of all the other terrific capability SE has I think the DCX programming is a rather minor feature, but it is very cool.
