Amanero Isolator/Reclocker GB

questions about this board:

1) Price is $25 fully populated or not?
2) is it based on the tweak found on GLT's blog?
3) is the design made with potato FF?
4) can we have a schematic?
5) is this thing necessary if using Ian's FIFO/Reclocker?

kind regards.

1) No, as mentioned in the first post
2) No, GLT did not invent the i2s isolator/reclocker... and this is a better rendition anyway i'm sure he would agree. particularly if using Potato chips, which are too fast for no ground plane IMO. this is how glt would like to have done it im sure ;)
3) if you choose yes
4) pass (that being said, its not a trade secret, its pretty obvious from looking at the board, so I would think yes it will be available. hope i'm not talking out of school there)
5) No it isnt*

* it does add convenient isolation on the USB and has u.fl outputs, so its a neat solution anyway and will make it flexible to use with other boards in the future, which is why i'm grabbing one. you could then perhaps skip the isolator on the fifo if you want, or leave it for double isolation

The first post with emphasis added ;)
Folks,

This is the new GB for the basic Amanero Isolator/Reclocker board. Preview as shown. More updates to come. Supplied as bare board only. Price is USD25 + shipping (tba). Possibly a min, 20 units before it goes for fab. BOM and schematics for subscribers. Add your ID, Dest and qty require as indicated. I have got the ball rolling :)

Maybe I did not explain well. It is better to make two questions

yes, questions are always better than misunderstandings

Amanero clocks are not valid for reclock 352 and 384 Khz. Right?

correct, Amanero clocks are too slow to be used as master clock synchronously at 352/384, but they were never designed to be used that way really

Could be used clocks 80 or 100Mhz (exact) for ReClock?

yes

* technically 80MHz is too slow for 352/384 with oversampling filter on, but it probably will work, if it works on your 80MHz BII without the reclocker, it will work better with it.

it has been found that some early 80MHz versions of the BII module and BII early Firmware did not handle 352/384 very well because it would default to tighter DPLL settings and would cause unlocks, but that has nothing to do with this board, if anything it would improve it. users with latest FW will be fine I think. sorry I do not have an 80MHz version.

100MHz will work under all circumstances, 80MHz will work under most circumstances (and all circumstances if you turn off OSF)

also there is a good chance that this reclocker using the dac side clock will rid all 80MHz users of any problem as well, since the dac should receive a synchronised input.

I believe glt has an 80MHz version BII, this rendition will have better results again than his lash up, which seems to be working well for him already.

there is no bleeding edge here, just well executed, well proven techniques

Thanks qusp.

I've always thought that it was imperative that the clock had to be exact multiples of the sampling frequency.

From your answer I understand that it is not necessary, and can be used exact 100Mhz clock to ReClock the signal.

Once again, thank you.

no problems, it normally would need multiples, but not with ESS as I understand it, because it is already going to take in all 3 i2s lines and use its own clock to decide where the samples go in relation to it. those 3 lines will be multiples of each other, or as close as the 100MHz clock will allow, but thats the same as just feeding it to the dac would be anyway, it would still have to take those samples in at the rate its 100MHz clock can accept them. you with me?

the ESS is always an async dac, even in sync mode, it just so happens that in sync mode it doesnt have to do any meaningful correction because the samples already have a pretty direct relationship to the clock speed.

no other dacs are like this
