I read that Ian`s FIFO board could be helpful together with XMOS in case of using older receivers like CS841x. For WM8804/5 its not that obvious because of different working.

It will be, just that the FIFO uses i2s in its buffer function for wants of better wording, I could well be wrong, qusp has one so will prob correct if so, Ian's SPDIF board is a receiver to i2s into FIFO to dac in i2s.
That's how my heads follows it. Not completely withit. Have son teething, those who have done nod, those who haven't, wonder "so?"
So I believe you output from the FIFO in i2s and ian had done the homework and hardwork to supply a correctly timed and structured data stream to the dac in i2s format.
Lots of hardwork. Don't envy the man!

I dont really understand what you wrote in last post (no offence). I just want to figure it out wheter its worth implementing that board with XMOS for SPDiF signal depending on used receiver.

Hey zibra,

Allgood. The iphone is not the best for this, I am pretty sure that the FIFO buffer uses I2S as its medium, so if you use the WaveIO from Lucien you could use the I2S from there into the FIFO, from the FIFO to the DAC of choice. Ian will need to clarify regarding which DAC you use and its format and whether he supports it, Im pretty sure he does though.
By using the Wave you can test between the SPDIF out from luciens board through Ians SPDIF board and the I2s direct to the FIFO, whichever is easiest to use and sounds best.

That better, can see why you were a touch confused earlier, part of parenting I think is english becomes your second language and tired drivel seems to replace it!

1,FIFO is kind of async jitter eliminating solution. It optimized for clock, both logical and electronical. XMOS is also an async PC based solution if I'm not wrong. So, if XMOS comes with good enough low jitter clock better than what FIFO clock board could provide, then you don't need a FIFO.

2.However if you want to include I2S souce from a DIT such as CS8416 at same time, FIFO will work for you.

3. Dual XO Board provides frequency management for FIFO. With it, FIFO can switch between different Fs automatically. Otherwise, it will fix at certain Fs.

By using the Wave you can test between the SPDIF out from luciens board through Ians SPDIF board and the I2s direct to the FIFO, whichever is easiest to use and sounds best.
